A Powerhouse coach’s guide to throwing a baseball-themed birthday party in Las Vegas — what works, what to avoid, and how to keep the cake from melting in July.
Vegas birthday parties have a heat problem. From May through September, outdoor parties are a logistics nightmare — kids overheating, cake melting, parents giving up by hour two. The solution most parents arrive at: indoor party venues. Powerhouse hosts batting cage parties year-round, and we’ve learned a few things about what works.
Two cages reserved for the birthday kid + 8–10 friends, 90-minute block, hangout area for cake and pizza. Kids rotate through the cages while parents eat in the hangout area. The format works because no kid is bored for more than 5 minutes — they’re either hitting, watching the next kid hit, or eating cake.
Younger kids do better with slow soft-toss and the HitTrax simulator showing their hits in MLB stadiums on screen. The visual feedback keeps engagement high even for non-baseball kids.
The HitTrax home run derby is the format that lights up this age. Each kid gets 10 swings, the screen tracks longest hit. Tournament bracket. Trophy for the winner. Parents have stopped throwing kid parties anywhere else after seeing this.
Time it for after the heat: Even indoor, parking lots get brutal in July afternoons. Mid-morning or early evening parties are easier on parents.
Don’t bring outdoor decorations: Stick with indoor-friendly setups. The hangout area at Powerhouse has tables and counter space.
Send the waiver early: All party kids need the liability waiver signed. Send the link to parents 3–4 days before the party so it’s done before they walk in.
Cage Party from $200. HitTrax Party from $325. Saturdays book 2–4 weeks ahead.
